  • Accident: 170616346 - Finger Partially Amputated In Bandsaw

    At approximately 10:45 a.m. on July 23, 1999, Employee #1, an inmate of Corcoran State Prison, was using a Butcher Boy bandsaw to cut pieces of watermelon when his hand slipped and contacted the blade. He suffered a partial amputation of his right middle finger and was admitted to the prison hospital.

    Accident: 170568885 - Finger Injured In Bandsaw

    Employee #1 was cutting beef with a Butcher Boy bandsaw when his right hand slipped into the blade, injuring his ring finger and amputating his index finger between the first and second knuckle.

    Accident: 125890624 - Fingertip Amputated In Bandsaw.

    At approximately 7:00 a.m. on October 17, 1998, Employee #1 was in the welding shop operating a horizontal bandsaw when he amputated the end of his left middle finger.

    Accident: 170570816 - Hand Lacerated In Bandsaw

    Employee #1 was using a Hobart bandsaw, serial #27-1031-857, to cut pork loins when his left hand contacted the saw blade. He sustained a deep laceration. The guard that was provided had not been adjusted to cover the unused portion of the blade.

    Accident: 125892091 - Fingertip Amputated In Bandsaw

    At approximately 10:30 a.m. on December 12, 1997, Employee #1, a carpenter/woodworker for Ethan Allen, was using a band saw to make wood furniture parts. His right middle finger struck the blade, amputating the first digit of the finger. He was transported by private automobile to the Chino Health Care Center and then to Pomona Valley Surgery Center, where he was treated and released.

    Accident: 200961407 - Thumb Amputated In Bandsaw

    Employee #1 was fabricating pallet racks. This involved cutting 1 1/2 in. angle iron to length using a horizontal bandsaw with a 3/4 in. blade and a material support to prop up the angle iron at the back side of the saw. Once a cut was complete, Employee #1 lifted the saw carriage and began loosening the vise with his left hand. When it was loose, he grabbed the wood with his right hand to reposition it for a second cut. Employee #1 had left the saw running, and when he pulled the stock off it fell from the material support. His hand was thrust into the running blade, amputating his right thumb. He was transported to the hospital, where his thumb was successfully reattached.

    Accident: 200961308 - Finger Lacerated In Bandsaw

    Employee #1 was operating an AEW 400 bandsaw to rip frozen fish blocks into approximately 1 in. widths. She was sawing four blocks at one time when the product became stuck between the saw fence and the saw blade. To clear the blocks from the blade, she used her left forefinger to push the product beyond the blade. While doing so, her finger struck the blade, resulting in a severe laceration. The company trained operators to use special tools, such as push sticks, in such situations, but their use not enforced.

    Accident: 119958973 - Finger Amputated In Bandsaw

    At approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 11, 1997, Employee #1, a 20-year-old meat cutter and retail clerk in a retail meat department, was operating a Butcher Boy bandsaw. The first digit of his right middle finger struck the operating blade of the saw and was amputated. Employee #1 was transported by paramedics to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
