  • Accident: 170097687 - Two Drown In Agricultural Canal

    Employee #1 fell in a canal and Employee #2 tried to rescue him. Both men drowned.

    Accident: 920538 - Dies Two Days After Driving Tractor Over Bank

    At approximately 4:00 a.m., Employee #1, a tractor driver in a sugar cane field in Belle Glade, FL, was told to move up and dump a 4 ton load of cane into a cage trailer so that the cane could be transported to the mill. According to the driver at the rear of the tractor, Employee #1 steered the tractor toward a canal and went over the bank. The employee was rescued from the enclosed tractor cab and taken to the hospital. Nothing was found wrong with him and he agreed to have his blood alcohol level checked. Two days later, Employee #1 died of respiratory failure.

    Accident: 200670404 - Drowns When Vehicle Overturns In Canal

    At approximately 10:00 a.m. on January 22, 1997, Employee #1 met a coworker at farm #12 and told him that he was going east to check on a piece of equipment. While Employee #1 was driving, his vehicle apparently started drifting toward the left edge of the canal. It came to rest upside down in the water. Employee #1 was trapped inside the vehicle and drowned.

    Accident: 200670271 - Drowns When Mower Overturn In Canal

    On November 13, 1996, Employee #1 stopped his mower at the side of a sugar cane harvesting road that was next to a canal. He then started mowing again in the direction of the canal. A coworker tried to communicate with him, but got no response. The vehicle slid down the bank, with Employee #1 in the seat, and then overturned in the canal,. Employee #1 drowned.

    Accident: 924795 - Drowns In Canal After Losing Control Of Car

    While valet-parking a guest's car, Employee #1 ran over a curb, then drove through a metal stanchion in the concrete, over a seawall, and into a canal. He got out of the car and drowned.

    Accident: 820621 - Drowns When Mower Falls In Hole

    Employee #1 was clearing vegetation from a 4 ft drainage canal when he hit an unanticipated 23 ft deep hole that was the result of unauthorized excavation. The mower dropped into the hole and Employee #1 drowned.

    Accident: 170360291 - Drowns In Irrigation Canal

    At 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 1995, Employee #1 and six coworkers, of Jose Elizondo O, Inc., were riding in the back of a pickup truck. They were returning from a tomato field where they had been moving sprinkler lines to the land owner's shop. The driver of the pickup truck stopped by an irrigation canal and the employees got out to wash up. Employee #1 slipped off the bank, which was 18 in. above the canal and had a 1:1 slope, and into the canal. The canal was about 30 ft wide and 9 ft deep with a slow moving current. Employee #1's coworkers heard him yelling. Although none of the coworkers could swim, two coworkers jumped in but nearly drowned. Employee #1 drowned.
