  • Accident: 119947968 - Hand Lacerated In Circular Saw

    At approximately 12:00 noon on September 28, 2000, Employee #1, a carpenter employed by Labor Connection, was framing an addition to a private residence. He was using a Skilsaw to cut a 2-by-4 when he lacerated his left hand. Employee #1 refused transportation by paramedics and drove himself to the Big Bear Community Hospital. He was treated and subsequently transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he underwent tendon repair and was hospitalized for two days.

    Accident: 119901403 - Thumb Amputated When Saw Kicks Back

    At approximately 3:20 p.m. on February 10, 2000, Employee #1 was operating a Skilsaw when it kicked back, landing at the base of his thumb at the second joint. His left thumb was partially amputated and he was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for surgery.

    Accident: 119957835 - Hand Lacerated When Saw Kicks Back

    At approximately 2:15 p.m. on October 8, 1999, Employee #1 was using a Skilsaw to cut a wood block when the saw bound up and kicked back. His left hand was lacerated between the thumb and index finger. Employee #1 was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for surgery; he was released the following day.

    Accident: 126008796 - Thumb Tip Amputated When Saw Kicks Back

    On August 20, 1999, Employee #1 was using a Skilsaw circular saw to notch a 2-by-4 on a work table when the saw kicked back, amputating the end of his left thumb. All guards were in place and functioning when the accident occurred. No causal factors could be determined.

    Accident: 119957942 - Knee Lacerated By Circular Saw

    At approximately 2:30 p.m. on June 21, 1999, Employee #1's right knee was lacerated by the blade of a Skilsaw. He was hospitalized overnight.

    Accident: 960252 - Thumb Amputated In Circular Saw

    On February 4, 1999, Employee #1, a carpenter for Amvet Construction, was working at a framing project at Kings Beach Elementary School in Kings Beach, CA. He was using a Skilsaw to rip a 2-by-4 when the saw kicked back, amputating his left thumb. First aid was provided by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Department, and he was then taken by ambulance to Tahoe Forest Hospital. After Employee #1 was stabilized, he was transferred to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, NV, for reattachment of his thumb.

    Accident: 119684314 - Thumb Amputated In Circular Saw

    Employee #1 and a coworker were working next to one another on the same job. They had just disagreed about the work accomplished the day before and how it was done. Employee #1 was upset with his coworker and grabbed a 2-by-6 and began to cut it with a skill saw. The coworker warned him to slow down and be careful. Employee #1 got even more upset and said, "What I lack in knowledge, I make up for in hustle." He then grabbed a 2-by-4 and began to cut it. The saw kicked back, amputating his thumb.

    Accident: 170176416 - Hand Injured In Circular Table Saw

    Employee #1, of a temporary labor service, was working for a secondary employer in Fremont, California. He was operating a circular table saw when he partially amputated the bone tip and severely lacerated his left thumb. The cause of the accident was Employee #1's failure to use a push rod to feed in the material, a violation of T8CCR 4300(f).

    Accident: 170160378 - Fingers Amputated In Rip Saw

    Employee #1 was cleaning out the blade of a rip saw when his fingers struck the still coasting blade and were amputated. He was newly assigned to the operation and failed to follow lockout procedures. Employee #1's training was minimal and was conducted in English; he spoke only Spanish.
