Employee #1 was cleaning equipment in a sink of water in the meat department of a grocery store. He suffered an epileptic seizure, fell face first into the sink, and drowned. Employee #1 had a medical history of epileptic seizures. He had suffered a seizure earlier in his workshift, but had apparently recovered.

On August 29, 1997, Employee #1 suffered an epileptic seizure in his company's salvage yard. He fell, striking his head, and was found by a coworker lying on his back. Employee #1 died the next day in San Antonio, TX.

Accident: 200450047 - Drowns In Pool After Apparent Epileptic Seizure
Employee #1 was replacing a burned-out light in a swimming pool. He was squatting over the 8 ft deep end of the pool when he apparently suffered an epileptic seizure. Employee #1 fell into the pool and drowned. There were no witnesses to this accident.

Accident: 14408074 - Nearly Drowns After Epileptic Seizure, Later Dies
At approximately 8:00 a.m. on May 31, 1996, Employee #1 was found unconscious, floating in a pond on a golf course. EMS personnel performed CPR and Employee #1 was taken by Life Flight to a hospital, where he was admitted to MICA [sic] for near-drowning. He was aggressively treated for six days with little neurological response; his prognosis was deemed poor, with only a 5 to 10 percent chance of recovery. Employee #1's family felt that he would not want to continue on life support and requested that all treatment and support be withdrawn. He expired shortly after this was done, at 6:03 a.m. on June 6, 1996. Employee #1's personnel file stated that he was an epileptic. The accident investigation concluded that Employee #1 had had a seizure while driving a golf cart, fell into the pond, and drowned.

Accident: 927731 - Dies In Fall After Epileptic Seizure
At approximately 5:20 p.m. on March 14, 1995, Employee #1 was replacing some asphalt shingles on a housetop. He suffered an epileptic seizure and fell 8 ft 2 in., striking his head on a rock. Employee #1 died.

Accident: 170570873 - Dies After Epileptic Seizure
On or about January 16, 1995, Employee #1 fell off a stool approximately 1 to 1 1/2 feet high when he suffered an epileptic seizure. He struck his head on the floor. Emergency medical personnel responded and Employee #1 was transported to the nearest medical facility. He died at approximately 4:00 p.m. on January 17, 1995. Death was determined to be accidental and not due to violations of OSHA standards. No citations were issued.
