Accident: 120277280 - Killed By Intoxicated Driver Employee #1, a regular employee of a general highway construction contractor, was working within a closed lane on the freeway. He was picking up red traffic cones while standing on a rack that was mounted on the rear of a 1995 Ford F350XL construction truck, company identification #12, California plate 5V76092. The truck was backing down the closed lane when a 1999 Ford F250 automobile, CA plate 5Z99717, driven by an intoxicated driver swerved into the closed lane and crashed into the rear of the construction truck. Employee #1 was pinned between the two vehicles and was killed. The accident was caused by the alcohol-impaired driver. A dump truck backing up to the milling machine struck her from behind; Employee #1 was killed. A vehicle apparently went out of control and struck #1 while he was approximately 30 ft off the roadway. He was killed instantly. Warning signs were in place on the road, but as the work crew progressed northward, they had gotten well ahead of the signs. An 18-wheeled tractor trailer ran off into one of a series of punch outs. The vehicle drove through three of these holes before it struck Employee #1. The truck dragged him as it went off the left side of the highway into the median, where it ignited and burned. Employee #1 was killed. The driver lost control and the vehicle began sliding on the icy road. It crossed over into the westbound lanes and was broadsided on the passenger side by a Dodge truck. Employee #1 was wearing a seatbelt, but was ejected out the rear of the vehicle and was killed. Employee #2 was riding in the front passenger seat and was partially ejected. An automobile swerved out of the extreme right lane of southbound traffic, striking Employees #1 and #2, who were on the highway side of the guardrail. Employee #1 was killed, and Employee #2 was hospitalized with severe injuries.
