    Accident: 123334476 - Injured In Fall Into Vat Of Hot Grease

    Employee #1, a restaurant worker, was instructed to clean the wall and exhaust area behind and above the Fryolator. He was standing with both feet on the top step of a 3 ft stepladder, extending his reach to clean the interior area of the exhaust hood, when his left foot slipped. Employee #1 fell from the ladder and his right foot was submerged in a vat of hot grease. He also twisted his right ankle and his head struck another Fryolator in the area. Employee #1 sustained third-degree burns, for which he was hospitalized overnight.

    Accident: 170205751 - Injured In Kitchen Fire

    Employee #1 tried to put out a fire in a wok by covering it with a cookie sheet. The wok handles created an air gap between the wok pan and the cookie sheet. Employee #1 then tried to cool the fire by putting water on the cookie sheet. The water splashed into the flaming grease drops; he sustained second-degree burns to his left ear, neck, and both hands.

    Accident: 120136965 - Burned When Splashed By Fryer Grease

    At approximately 9:00 p.m. on June 22, 1999, Employee #1 was cleaning in and around the deep fat fryer at a food concession stand at the Del Mar (CA) Fair. While he was cleaning underneath the unit, he looked away. When he looked back, the fryer's 4 to 5 in. legs were sliding toward the edge of the counter on which they sat. Employee #1 tried unsuccessfully to stop the fryer from sliding. As he tried to get out of the way, the fryer's legs slipped off the edge of the counter, splashing him with hot grease. He sustained burns on his torso and both arms, which required skin grafts. Employee #1 was hospitalized for 13 days.

    Accident: 200960938 - Burned When Splashed By Hot Grease

    Employee #1 was using tongs to remove french fries that had fallen out of a deep fryer basket into the hot grease. The tongs slipped from her hands and fell into the grease, which splashed up onto the left side of her face. Employee #1 suffered small second-degree burns on her cheek and neck.

    Accident: 170739239 - Thumb Burned By Hot Cooking Oil

    At approximately 10:00 p.m. on November 20, 1995, Employee #1, of McDonald's, was cleaning oil buildup around a deep fryer containing hot cooking oil. She was using a scratch pad and wearing large, cumbersome gloves to protect her hands from being burned. No other protection was provided. Employee #1 took off the gloves to clean the back corner of the deep fryer and her hand slipped and went into the hot oil. The back of her right thumb was burned. She was taken to the hospital, where she stayed approximately 2 hours before being released. A general citation was issued to the employer.
